Dear Friends, We are struggling to help our mother, Lydia Chugranis, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer in 2013.

At that time, the cancer had spread to Lydia’s lungs, liver and bones. As a result of the level of care needed, she has been living in a nursing home. Recently, doctors discovered the cancer has now spread to her brain.

As our father’s most trusted assistant, Lydia has been unable to help him in his flower business or help support their home. Because Nick has had to spend time away from work to coordinate care for Lydia, it has become impossible for him to continue alone.

Due to the outstanding medical expenses and the struggles with the economy, our father has been forced to close his lifelong business, the Olympia Hearns Flower Shop, which has been a staple in the Bronx community since 1906—109 years—one of the longest, consecutively run (third generation) family businesses in the Bronx.

We are reaching out to all who have been touched by our parents’ lives of service and dedication to the greater community, to help Lydia and Nick get through these difficult times. If anyone wishes to contribute to financial relief for Nick and Lydia who have served the Bronx community for generations by arranging flowers for all of life’s occasions, it would be very much appreciated.
