This is the Scott Jones Cancer Fund. The funds will be used for Scott's medical costs and related expenses not covered by insurance.

Between November 21, 2011, and December 9, Scott had 2 heart attacks. In the process of diagnosing those, it was determined that he also had lung cancer. On December 9, he had a heart catheterization. Then he had a variety of tests and scans to determine the best treatment for the cancer. His heart problem was fixed with a stint. Between December 27 and March 1, he had 12 days of chemotherapy in the hospital. He also had 32 days of radiation. He did well through all of that, although he had to have a blood transfusion and other medications. His main symptom/side effect that remains is fatigue.

This type of cancer is called small cell cancer. It is one of the most dangerous. It frequently goes to the brain. He had a full body PET scan on May 2, 2012. On May 7, his oncologists said that the cancer/tumors are gone and Scott is in remission! Praise the Lord!

Scott will have a brain MRI on May 11. The following week, he will see Dr. Stewart again and be what they call “simulated” for brain radiation. Scott’s type of cancer frequently goes to the brain, so they want to do 15 consecutive days of brain radiation to try to prevent that. That brain radiation will probably start around mid-May and go until the first week of June (every day, Monday through Friday, in Corpus Christi). In August, he will go back for a checkup and will probably have regular checkups for the cancer for a long, long time.

Scott was born on February 9, 1941, in Brockton, Massachusetts, to Roy and Carolyn Marie Jones. He has 4 siblings—Roy, Judy, Bob and Jean. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1959. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was in the Army from June 22, 1963, until June 15, 1966. While in the Army he met his first wife, Elizabeth Anne, whose father was also in the Army. Scott moved to Austin, Texas, to be with Anne, and they were married on June 3, 1967. Scott and Anne had 4 children: Kara, Matthew, Mindy, and Russell. Scott attended Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas, from 1966 to 1967, then he transferred to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, where he graduated on August 18, 1970. He applied to the U.S. Secret Service and was accepted. He was an agent with the Secret Service from January 25, 1971, to October 31, 1993. In 1997, he moved to Beeville, Texas, where he accepted a position with the Beeville Independent School District to teach U.S. history and government at AC Jones High School. He met Nancy at a new teacher workshop and they were married on July 11, 1998. Scott has lived a life of service and has been blessed in many ways. He will retire from teaching on June 1, 2012.
