Nixon is a 2 year old puppy with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA).

Nixon, a wonderful two-year-old German Shepherd Dog, suffers from a life-threatening congenital heart condition that is completely curable with surgery. Nixon will live a long and healthy life if we can raise the $5000 needed for the surgery and follow-up treatment.

We at German Shepherd Rescue of Northern California’s Cody Program are asking for your help in giving the gift of a full and normal life to Nixon. He is a happy, well-mannered, social puppy that deserves our help. Nixon has been through all of the assessment stages for his condition and his prognosis following surgery is rated ‘excellent’. He is among the lucky ones we save—his medical problem can be completely corrected—with your help. Once his surgery is complete and he's recovered, he will be able to be adopted. In the meantime, he is resting comfortably with a foster family awaiting his surgery date.

Please open your heart and help Nixon be all that he can be by supporting his surgery.

Any support you can give would be greatly appreciated to help save Nixon's precious life. Please also forward and share this message with your friends via Facebook, e-mail or post on your website.

Medical Details: Nixon is a 2 year old puppy with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). PDA is a serious, congenital heart condition where abnormal blood flow occurs between two of the major arteries connected to the heart.

The vessel that pumps oxygen-rich blood to the heart was supposed to close a few days after birth, but in Nixon's case, his vessel remained open and the oxygen-rich blood is mixed with oxygen-poor blood from the pulmonary artery, putting strain on his heart and increasing blood pressure in the lung arteries.  He can lead a normal life by simply closing the hole.
