Please consider making a donation to help this family with their uncovered medical expenses for Emrie. Thank you for your support!

Baby Emrie is a precious little angel that is suffering from Cortical Dysplasia. Cortical dysplasia is a malformation of the cortex of the brain. It is considered congenital, meaning that it is present at birth, occurring during development of the embryo and fetus. The most typical presenting symptom of these malformations is recurrent seizures in an infant or young children.

The treatment of epilepsy is complex and varies considerably from patient to patient. In general, treatment begins with anti-epileptic medications to help control the seizures. In some patients, this works well and is all that is needed. In those patients who fail multiple medications or who have a very severe malformation, surgical treatment may be necessary.

Emrie has been on numerous seizure medications which have showed little to no help in maintaining or relieving her from her seizures. Recently Emrie and her parents, Sean and Kylee Renevier, have met with a surgical team who believe that it is in Emrie's best interest to undergo surgery to "shut down" the left side of her brain. This procedure will ultimately leave little Emrie paralyzed on the right side of her body. Although this procedure has many risks and possible complications it is found through research, to provide the best long term results in helping control Emrie's seizures. After the surgery it will be a tumultuous and strenuous road for baby Emrie and the Renevier family as she goes through rehab to gain function of the right side of her body and continue to develop all the cognitive and physical skills that need to be learned.
