Please support the Gil Gilliam Lung Transplant Fund! Donations will be used for medical costs & related expenses not covered by insurance.

Imagine being told by a doctor you have a life-threatening disease with no known cure, no consistent standard of care, and no reliable prognosis. Imagine the doctor can’t tell you what caused the illness and life expectancy is 3-5 years. This is what my Dad (Gil Gilliam) was told in Spring of 2010 when diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).

Even though pulmonary fibrosis kills as many people as breast cancer every year, we know little about it. Pulmonary fibrosis is scarring of the lungs and supporting structures that makes the lungs thick and stiff. Lungs lose the ability to move oxygen into your bloodstream so your brain and other organs don't get the oxygen they need. Since there is no cure or treatment for IPF the only option is a lung transplant.

Over the last year Gil worked with Methodist hospital to be accepted into the transplant program. He retired & began traveling downtown to rehab, doctors appointments, classes & support groups all while relying on oxygen to help him breathe.

On November 6, 2010 he got the call so many had prayed for, a lung was available! A donor's generosity blessed Gil with a left lung transplant and he now has the opportunity to continue living life to its fullest with the love & support of his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family & friends. He is currently recuperating with the help of the amazing staff at Methodist Hospital Houston.

Unfortunately not all medical bills are covered by insurance and out of pocket expenses such as transportation & lodging are mounting. Gil also has to take anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life, the cost of which can sometimes exceed $2500 per month. Our goal is to ease the financial burden for a man who has given so much of himself without asking anything in return.

All donations go directly to Gil to pay for medical expenses. His family would like to thank you in advance for your continued support & prayers. We also encourage everyone to give the gift of life by registering to be an organ/tissue donor at
