I was chosen out of 3 other Rhode Island sophomores to go to the World Leadership Congress at UCLA.

After going to the weekend Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar for Rhode Islanders in June, a spark was ignited in me to make a difference in the world. I want to get out in the world and volunteer my knowledge, time and skills. That weekend taught me that being a leader is not assuming all the tasks at once, but merely working WITH others instead of over them to accomplish the most challenging tasks. The World Leadership Congress is the international version of the statewide conference I attended. It is an interactive and jammed pack week during which we will further develop our leadership skills as well as participate in community service activities. HOBY was founded in 1958 to reach out to students my age so that we are exposed to current issues as well as promoting our innovative ideas to address them. HOBY was and is an interactive experience, not just a classroom lecture. I am going on this trip to grow as a person, brainstorm new ideas and service events, and to meet friends. I want to acquire a network of people who think like I do but have different opinions. This week at UCLA will by far be one of the greatest if it follows it the same footsteps as the Rhode Island HOBY experience, and I know it will far outdo it. Any donations you are willing to give are greatly appreciated! The costs for this program include program fees, room and board, and meals, but it does not include my airfare. I am grateful for your support, be it monetary or just encouragement. Thank you so much for helping this to happen!
