The family and friends of Lori Clark are uniting to raise money to help the battle against her Oligodendroglioma brain tumor.

My name is Lori and I first discovered a problem in 2008 when I had a CT scan of my head in the ER due to a two week migraine that ended with nausea, weakness and fever. I was sent for MRI's and to a neurologist that told me it was not tumorous and most likely a false picture or scar tissue.

I lived with the migraines for the next 4 years oblivious to the fact that they were getting worse day by day. In November of 2011 during the 2nd trimester of my pregnancy I had a seizure in my sleep. Despite the advise of my OBGYN to seek further testing I coughed the issue up to medication and went on with my life until February 2012 when I had my 2nd seizure. At that time I went to the ER to see what was going on. I had more tests and MRI's during and after the birth of my son at which time it was discovered that the mass in my brain had grown and was a tumor after all.

In May 2012 I had biopsy surgery and was diagnosed with a grade 2 Oligodendroglioma brain tumor with 1p and 19q deletions. This type of brain tumor is ‘the kind you would want if you got to choose your tumor’ but still has a 100% recurrence rate, therefore I face a lifelong battle. Brain tumors cannot be cured (at least not with modern FDA approved methods) they can only be 'shrunk' in size and will grow back at higher grade and faster growing. I was also told that the tumor is in the worst place it could be, on top of the brain that controls my major motor functions, making a great portion of the tumor unable to be removed. Future surgeries and subsequent treatment are highly likely.

The only options I was given by my oncologist were to remove what can be done safely (25%-75%), take a chemo pill or just watch it and see what happens. Chemo will make me unable to have more children (if I decided to) and might not have any effect on the tumor at all.

So here I am 31 years old with a newborn son, a stack of medical bills and a grim medical future to say the least. I have looked into treatment at Burzynski's clinic and while I see as much negative feedback as there is positive ,I am willing to try if there is any possible chance that it will work and I will get to watch my son grow up. Just as my battle will be ongoing, so will the financial burden. Myself and my family are now looking to raise money to pay for the initial medical bills and to support my health regime as I enter a period of extensive treatments.

Only 7% of the population will get this tumor. I am not sure if that is just my bad luck, but someone has to be in that 7% and even if this treatment only works 1% of the time someone has to be that percent also so it's worth a try :)

God Bless you.
