Mark's Helping Hearts are gathering in support to help Mark and his family in their time of need. Please become a Helping Heart!

Mark has been a dedicated Biology tutor at Lee College in Baytown, Texas for the last 7 years. In this period of time he has touched the hearts co-workers and students alike. In the past year we became aware that Mark was in need of an aortic valve replacement and his tricuspid valve needed repair. Time ticked by and in the weeks before the surgery he realized his insurance was not going to cover any of the costs.

On Friday, September 7, 2012 Mark had his surgery—they replaced the aortic valve and repaired the tricuspid valve. Shortly after the surgery they took him off bypass and his heart began beating on its own. Mark remains in the hospital and is recovering well; however, the cost of the surgery weighs heavily on him and his family, and this is where his Helping Hearts come in. With every new helping heart donation the financial burden for Mark and his family gets a little smaller. Please look into your hearts and become a Helping Heart!

We appreciate the support The Baytown Sun has given us by writing an article about Mark and this website, hopefully spreading the word. We would like to add that we are organizing and taking donations for a silent auction to be held at Lee College’s Student Center in October. If you would like to donate items for the auction, please contact the Student Success Center at 832-556-4578 or success@lee.edu. We will post more information on the auction as the details are ironed out. Be sure to help spread the word by sharing this site on your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts. Thanks! :)
