Renae was diagnosed with stage 3 Colorectal in November 2011. It had already traveled to her lymph nodes and possible liver by the time she was diagnosed. She had previously battled and beat breast cancer in February 2011 and thought we were out of the woods until this devastating news. On December 14th,2011 she went in for the colon resection, hysterectomy, and to have the rectal tumor removed. Everything was supposed to have been done laproscopically, but due to a much more extensive colon cancer they then had to open her up and remove much more bowel than anticipated. Over the course of the next few days her health rapidly declined until she was rushed back in for emergency surgery to reopen her wound and find that there was a leak in her bowels causing her to have severe sepsis(infection). She nearly died on the operating table as her blood pressure was barely able to withstand another surgery. After that she spent the next week in the ICU where she received blood, plasma, medications to keep her blood pressure up, strong doses of antibiotics, a wound drain, a tube down her nose to evacuate anything she consumed, and antiarrhythmic medications because her heart was having problems beating correctly. Everyone told us that she might not make it out of the ICU because she was just so weak. Praise the Lord, she did, and she was then moved to the post operative surgical wing of the hospital where she stayed for a few days before being discharged home. The battle is LONG from over for Renae though. Seems as if we are behind the 8 ball so to speak with her already having these complications, being this weak and malnourished, and we haven't even started chemo or radiation yet.
As many of you might know, chemotherapy and radiation as treatment of colorectal cancer and prognosis for what is stage 3 is not good. However, we remain hopeful that she will beat the odds, and grateful for each day we are given.
Renae is the single mother of 3 great kids. She has worked for Citibank for 28 years. She is not able to work due to the complications she has had and treatment needed to fight this. Her family has been very supportive and at her bedside every step of the way however her private insurance plan is very expensive and covers very little, especially the ICU stay, repeated surgeries, and tests and treatment needed to keep on top of this disease. This battle has drained her family both mentally and financially. Renae is in the battle of her life right now and the mounting medical bills are a worry we would like to take away from her. We can't change this disease, but we can change how she fights it! Thank you all for your donations, support and most importantly prayers. We do believe in miracles and we pray for one each day. Also at this time she is asking for no visitors as she has a lowered immune system and is subject to infection easily, but contact via phone or facebook is MUCH appreciated!

God Bless you.
