Blind in my left eye because of Keratoconus. Help me see again using a new procedure called Corneal Collagen Crosslinking with Riboflavin (CXL or C3R). This MUCH safer than a Corneal Transplant. This procedure is not yet covered by health insurance.

Hello! I hope this finds you in good health and an open mind. I have a very bad case of Keratoconus in my left eye. I'm nearly blind in that eye. If you hold 5 fingers up two feet from my left eye, I cannot tell how many fingers are being held up.

There is a new procedure gaining popularity which can correct the vision of an individual who has keratoconus. This procedure is called Corneal Collagen Crosslinking with Riboflavin, a.k.a CXL or C3R. You can read about it here: http://www.nkcf.org/treatment-options/corneal-crosslinking.html The equipment for the procedure has been FDA approved, but the actual procedure itself is still quite new, and thus hasn't been FDA approved. Yet. This means insurance will NOT cover the cost of the treatment.

Because I have keratoconus in my left eye, I have zero depth perception. It's difficult for me to drive at night, and I can't do simple fun activities such as playing catch with my children. It's also very hard for me to do yard work, as my lawn is a bit bumpy. I'm worried I'll trip over a bump and meet the lawnmower with my hands or feet. I just want to enjoy the simple things again. Things those people with depth perception take for granted. My disease only started a few years ago... but it's progressed quickly. I remember being able to do yard work without a worry and being able to see at night. I REALLY miss those things. Sometimes I get very down about the loss of vision in my left eye... but I pick myself up quickly out of the hope that I can have these procedures done.

I pray you will consider my request with an open heart and open mind.
