I found a stray chow mix lying in the road that had been hit by a car. It cost $7326 to stabilize and repair broken arm and broken pelvis. and there will be an additional fee for x-rays of approximately $300.

Thursday 3/18 at about 6 am I was driving down a dark street and barely made out an object lying in the road. It was a black chow mix.  A neighbor saw a car hit him and speed off without stopping. The dog was alert but in a lot of pain. I waited two hours for animal control to show up. They helped me get the chow in my truck and I took him to an emergency vet.

He had a broken humerus and multiple fractures of the pelvis. But other signs looked normal, no internal injuries. Broken bones  can be mended. But it required surgery by an orthopedic specialist. That coupled with the emergency vet care to stabilize him shot up the costs astronomically to $7,326. I hated the thought of putting down an animal whose injuries were so fixable. So i authorized the work and have been seeking ways to cover the cost. Several non-profits have stepped in.  So far I have received $2775 thru animal groups, $1136 thru direct individual contributions, and $689 on this website.  total raisesd $4600.  total left to raise $3,000.

1. emergency and stabilization care at:

$2,326 (I already paid this) to stabilize him four days till monday 3/22 when he was delivered for surgery to:

2. vca veterinary specialty center
9745 randall drive, indpls, in
317 848 0318

cost for 2 surgeries plus neutering - discounted to $5,000 plus will need more x-rays - adding about $300

He had two  surgeries - one for the humerus, one for the pelvis. This vet generously cut the surgery fee into almost half from about $9,400 to $5,000.  He also cut the amount of downpayment from half down to just $500.  and he is allowing  monthly payments of $660 for six months.  Thank you Dr. Barton!  But that's a lot of money and I'm hoping to get help paying it off.

"Corporal" Klinger had the surgery and is recuperating at my home. he'll need 8 wks of limited activity. He is under 1 yo and about 37 lbs and proving to be a sweetheart - gives kisses, leans in for hugs and appears to be housebroken.  if i didn't have two chow mixes already - one who is dominant aggressive - i'd keep him. still thinking about it.  going to wait and see how dog intros go after the 8 wks healing.

So if anyone can contribute any amount to either location (Noahs said it would reimburse me for funds donated)  you can call and explain what it's for. both vets should be able to verify costs and validity.
