The family and friends of Heather Wimberley are uniting to raise money to 'Help Heather Heal'. Please show your support!

Dear Family and Friends

On September 10, 2011, our wife, daughter, sister, and mother, Heather Wimberley’s, life changed forever when a terrible accident caused her to lose all 5 fingers on her right hand. She stayed at Shands in Gainseville for 3 weeks as the medical team worked hard to save as much of her right hand and arm as they could. During her hospital stay, Heather also developed an invasive, life-threatening fungal infection that has required intensive IV anti-fungal drugs that wreck havoc on one's body and produce some horrific side effects, all of which it seems are affecting Heather.

Not only has she suffered through severe pain and unbearable emotional trauma, but due to the infections, is requiring in-home nursing care and weekly trips to Shands into the foreseeable future. She will also need several more skin grafting surgeries and a hand prosthetic to help her adjust to her new life with the most ease possible.

UPDATE 10/28/2011: Heather developed a severe case of pneumonia and is on the ventilator fighting for her life in the Cardiopulmonary Intensive Care Unit at TMH. The pneumonia developed into Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), a very serious lung condition that can take months to fully recover from. As her husband and 6 year old daughter were on there way to the hospital, their car was t-boned by a driver that ran a red light, totalling their only mode of transportation. As if having your wife and mother in the ICU wasn't enough, now they have to have help getting from place to place. As of 11/8/2011 Heather is still on the ventilator but showing great progress in her recovery of pneumonia and ARDS.

As many of you know, insurance doesn’t cover everything and medical and travel bills are mounting. This battle has drained Heather and her family both mentally and financially. Heather is facing a challenging road ahead of her as she navigates through this most difficult time in her life and the mounting medical bills are a worry we would like to take away from her. We can't change the fact that this happened to her, but we can give her the peace of mind to know a hand prosthetic is in her future! Thank you all for your donations, support and most importantly prayers. We do believe in miracles and we pray for one each day.
