Line Monkey needs a better wheelchair! You can help Line Monkey's mobility!
A serious back spasm put me into a borrowed wheelchair on the last day... and may have saved my spinal cord.
The day after the convention ended, I went to see my doctor. Within days I had several tests conducted, and the news was fairly grim. I had multiple micro fractures, a torn tendon, a stretched ligament, and extensive nerve damage. Surgery was discussed, but would have ended with me being in severe pain for the rest of my life. So I was told to get used to my wheelchair.
My current wheelchair is a heavy, generic, manual wheelchair. It is functional, but only on flat ground. If you've been to the Pacific Northwest, you know that flat ground is hard to find. Hills are my nemesis.
But there is hope!
One of the other EFNW staff members has a lead on a good condition power wheelchair! And the asking price has been slashed in half!
The only problem is getting the funds for it.
Like many Americans, I have no health insurance. And the settlement from the car accident may not make it to me for another 2 years. This means that I cannot afford to fund my own chair.
This is where you come in!
The cost of the chair is $1500. If I can gather anything close to this amount, then I can see about working out a payment plan for the rest. If, by some miracle, more than that is donated, I plan to give the excess to Seattle Children's Hospital.
Any amount is helpful, and greatly appreciated.
