Wedrose Acres Helps - Animal Cruelty Case Lexington IL

Last Sunday morning, November 11, the police responded to a domestic disturbance 911 call that brought them to Curtis Cleary's house.  They expected to find a couple feuding, but they found so much more.

As the police entered and surveyed the home, they found dead and decomposing animals in almost every room.  Around a dozen dogs and around 60 cats.  About 30 farm animals, some emaciated, were seen outside and in the barn.  Cleary and his girlfriend, Contisa, had been living in the home surrounded by dying, dead, and decaying animals for quite some time.  Cleary was taken to jail for the domestic disturbance, and to this day has only been charged with two counts of animal cruelty.  Contisa was not charged.

In the days that followed, Wedrose Acres, a local animal sanctuary, took in some of the animals to care for them.  The volunteers there also went to Cleary's home three times a day to care for the animals they didn't have room for at the sanctuary.

Cleary is now out on bail, and the Department of Agriculture has turned all the remaining animals over to Contisa and her father.  They came to the decision without entering the home full of decomposing animals.  Animal groups, activists, and concerned citizens are now contacting lawmakers and media in an effort to have this decision overturned before there are more casualties.

This page is to help raise funds for Wedrose Acres, to help with all the expenses incurred during this time.  Please give what you can, as there are quite a few expenses - and Wedrose may help more in the future if the Department of Agriculture changes their decision.
