I am running the Detroit Marathon in October 2012 to raise money to help 7 year old Spencer Meyer with his battle against cancer.

Spencer was diagnosed with Leukemia in September 2010. Leukemia is cancer of the blood that can spread from the bone marrow to different areas in the body. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common form of childhood cancer and the good news is, it is one of the most curable. Over the next several weeks Spencer had many more obstacles including: a ruptured appendix, a surgery on his liver, stomach and lung to remove pockets of infection, a swollen brain (P.R.E.S) and multiple seizures that landed him in the intensive care unit. Spencer at home had to relearn how to walk and talk. Unfortunately in February 2012 Spencer relapsed and his siblings are not a match for a bone marrow transplant. The cancer is now in his spine. A bone marrow transplant is still not out of the question but the risks out weighs the rewards at this time. In March 2012 Spencer started an extremely intense chemotherapy regiment that will last for the next three years. Along with his cancer Spencer is battling extreme emotional issues due to the P.R.E.S. He has been labeled anything from Suicidal, Bi-Polar, Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and many other things. Please keep Spencer in your prayers. Spencer is 6 years old and has an older sister Mikayla 8, a younger brother Vincent 4, and a baby sister Tiffany 1. Spencer's parents Jodi and Jason Meyer are school teachers. Jason is a friend of mine from CMU.
