This is the Mending Murphy fund. All funds raised will be used for Murphy's surgery and medical costs.

Murphy is our three year old chihuahua yorkie mix. On Saturday afternoon- March 20, 2011, she suddenly collapsed while walking. In the following hours, she progressively lost her ability to feel and move her limbs. After several visits to the ER vet, regular vet and neurologist, we arrived at a diagnosis: Atlantoaxial subluxation. The MRI found a lesion on her cervical spine causing the neurological deficits. Atlantoaxial instability in her case, is a congenital defect where the vertebrae C1- and C2 are not properly attached. Currently, she is in a neck brace and on strict crate rest for 8-10 weeks. Without surgery, she is high risk for a relapse and will have activity restrictions for the rest of her life. No running, jumping or stairs. The neurologist warned of the risks of another relapse may mean worsening symptoms; such as irreversible paralysis or sudden death. The diagnosis alone has exhausted the limit of pet insurance coverage per condition by double. To be able to afford the surgery by myself is way out of reach right now. She is our little sweetie pie and I am afraid of what might happen if we don't have the surgery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
