Please help us to raise money for Johan\'s medical expenses. He has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Carcinoma. A couple of weeks ago he had one kidney removed and he is in need of further treatment.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you.

To everyone who has donated on GiveForward, joined the Facebook group, sent encouraging emails and cards to Johan and his family, or spread the news about this fundraiser to friends, there are NO words to adequately thank you for your efforts or tell you how touched we are by your compassion.

In a very short amount of time, what started off as a small fundraiser among friends and family has quickly turned into something much, much larger -- a movement with thousands of people joining in from around the far reaching corners of the globe.  There are now close to 3000 members of the Help Johan Facebook group and hundreds upon hundreds of people who have donated on the GiveForward fundraising page.

Incredibly, in just three weeks, YOU have helped raise an unprecedented $80,000 for Johan's cancer treatment - an amount that far exceeds anything we ever imagined possible.  One might call this a miracle, a gift from the heavens or simply a remarkable act of human compassion.

We now have excellent news to share!  We have learned that Johan’s insurance has decided to cover the cost of the high dose IL-2 treatment in the United States.  Johan will begin treatment in Goshen, Indiana on March 8. The first treatment will take approximately one month.  Johan and Stephanie will then return to Holland and come back to the US two months later for the second treatment.  They will then do this once more for the third treatment. While this is fantastic news, there will be many medical expenses that will not be completely covered by insurance.  In addition, there will be many non-medical expenses associated with receiving treatment far from home.

We are grateful to each of you for the love, compassion, and generosity you have shown this family during a time that seemed hopeless.  Please be assured that all of the money you have donated thus far will go towards the costs that this family will have associated with treatment and recovery.  You have shown all of us involved in this fundraiser the power that caring people possess when they come together for a cause.  Once again, thank you from all of us who love Johan, Stephanie, and their children.  If you have any questions about your donation, contact the organizer of the fundraiser.

Our fundraiser doesn't end until March 31 so please continue to contribute and spread the word.  You are making a difference for this family. If we have learned anything over the last three weeks, it is that human compassion knows no bounds and that ANYTHING is possible.

From the deepest bottoms of our hearts, thank you very much for your continued support.

TEAM JOHAN (Kira, Kathy, Kelly, Lisa, Erin, and JJ)

Johan was diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Carcinoma soon after Christmas.  He lives in Delft, Holland with his wife, Stephanie, and 4 children.  Johan can not receive the treatment that is needed to possibly save his life in Holland.  His cancer is aggressive.

On a personal level, this is a very important cause for me.  I have known Johan since I was 12 years old.  A few years later at the age of 15 I met Stephanie, who became one of my very best friends.  Stephanie and Johan met in high school but remained strictly friends!  Several years later the two met up again in Texas and fell in love.  Stephanie took her two children and moved back to Holland with Johan.  They then had two children.  Their youngest son, who is 3, is autistic.  The two of them have put so much energy and love into his care and development.

These are the most amazing, positive people I know.  Through everything they have tried to look on the bright side.  It breaks my heart to see what they are going through now.  This is not what he should be dealing with at the age of 39.

Stephanie is so far away right now that it is hard for those of us who want to help to do so beyond a phone call.  I am hoping that we can raise some money to help Johan get the treatment that he needs.  This is his only chance and we want him to have that.

Please donate any amount to help out this family.  They need all of us to help.
