Please help me raise money to get to Rwanda and help send money to children affected by the the 1994 genocide. Thank You!

Hi,

My name is Amanda Morton and I am writing to ask for your support for the Agahozo Shalom Youth Village(ASYV) for orphaned children in Rwanda where I will be volunteering this July. It is a residential community in Rwanda that hosts about 375 students across the country that were orphaned after the genocide in 1994. In 1994, Rwanda experienced one of the most horrific acts of genocide in history as the world turned a blind eye. The aftermath of the violence left Rwanda and its people in ruins: nearly 1,000,000 lives were lost and 2.8 million children were orphaned, a figure that makes up one of the highest orphan rates worldwide.

In 2008 ASYV opened up with the aims to provide a stable environment for its youth. The Village high school provides formal educational and vocational training for all youth. The Village also incorporates various therapies to heal the self and heart of its youth; it also includes a Health and Wellness Center that caters to the physical and emotional needs of the Village’s youth and staff.

I am going there to volunteer my time and do what I can to help restore the lives of these children. In addition to volunteering, I am raising money to support ASYV, which was modeled after Yemin Orde, an Israeli youth village created to restore the lives of the orphans after the Holocaust. Donating our time, skills, and physical labor is important, but the village also depends on the financial support and generosity of outside help. Through this fundraiser, I plan to raise about $200 that will cover the cost of required vaccinations and medical insurance that I will need in order to travel to Rwanda. I also plan to raise at least $800 that will go directly to the Agahazo Shalom Youth Village.

Please be a part of this mission by contributing to Agahozo Shalom Youth Village online. For those who are unable to donate money, one of the best ways you can help is by spreading the word. Please help me to get this message out into the open.

Thank you for taking the time to read about our mission and assisting with financial support. Please contact me at morto23a@mtholyoke.edu, or call me at 646-295-2361, with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Amanda Lynn Morton
