In February, Kurtis was hospitalized for Streptococcus pneumonlae and bleeding in his upper GI known as a Mallory-Weiss Tear. He was in ICU for over 7 days at Valley View Hospital. I would like to mention that the doctors and nurses were incredible and instrumental to Kurtis surviving. Thank you to all of them! Unfortunately, a month later he began to bleed internally again. With protein-calone maluntritution and his bilirubin increasing every day I thought he would not survive anymore operations. His liver and kidneys were failing. Another seven day stay in ICU they released him with a very grim outlook. We were told by one of his doctors that if he did not turn around quickly his life would be over by end of the summer. With this news, we canceled our upcoming wedding planned in August and I quit my job to be with him twenty four seven. If he only had a short time to live I was not going to spend one minute without him. With the prognosis the way as it was we forged on and took one day at a time. He lost over 60 pounds at this point and was losing more weight every week. We continued his medication along with antioxidants and a lot of praying. His blood work looked better within a couple of weeks only to be smashed by him having extreme pain in his stomach with a high fever. He went into shock and had to be readmitted into the hospital. A very deadly infection had started in the lining of his stomach. Another seven days in ICU and critical care units. We do not know what the future holds but at this time but he is stable, eating and doing better each day. I don’t know what the total expenses will be but I knew we had to do something now especially if he needs a liver transplant in the future. With no income coming in, this unexpected crisis has taken quite a toll on Kurtis, emotionally and financially. He does not have full insurance coverage and does not qualify for any programs such as disability as of now. I know Kurtis loves his family and friends immensely and would love to hear from you. We want to win this battle and fight this awful disease and we can with help. Any money donated will go toward daily living and medical expenses.
