Help CODA raise money to compete at the World Hip Hop Championships this summer!

Twice a week, CODA dancers gather into a studio after a long day at work to sweat and practice into the wee hours of the night. As they enter CODA World, they leave behind their 9 to 5's, bad days, worries, and troubles and escape into a world of dance, love, indescribable friendships, and positivity. The energy in the room when all 21 CODA dancers are there doing what they love is uplifting to say the least, and it is clear that in just a short amount of time, they have become a family and a home away from home. Although every dancer comes from a different cultural background, ethnicity, upbringing, or lifestyle, they have bonded because they have vital thing in common: they are passionate about dance.

CODA was founded in 2007 to train and expose up-and-coming dancers to the professional world of dance. In just a short amount of time, CODA has grown into one of Chicago's most entertaining and diverse dance companies, both with the obvious cultural mixture of its members, as well as the variety of the company's dance styles. The success of the company is due in part to the drive, passion, and love for dancing and performing that each member possesses. The group rehearses anywhere from 2 to 5 hours at a time twice a week, and performs all over Chicago and the Midwest. At the rare chance the the company is compensated for a show, the money is put back into payments for studio space rentals, performance application fees, costumes, and other fees that add up quickly. Most of the time, the dancers put up the money themselves just to continue doing what they love; and what they love is performing. CODA has made appearances at Dance Chicago, Prelude, Hype, Dance Live, Urbanite, and endless shows for various causes, tributes, and events.

For dancers like us, life is often a struggle. Many of us have taken up 2, even 3 jobs just to make ends meet in our personal lives, while others are full time students balancing a job, or fully employed and working long hours Monday through Friday. Like so many dance companies, CODA's expenses can add up to thousands of dollars a year. Regardless, we do what we do because we love it, not because its easy or affordable. Every year, Hip Hop International hosts the biggest Hip Hop Dance Competition in the world. To our advantage, the competition has always been held in the United States, and this summer will be hosted in Las Vegas, Nevada. To describe this event would take way too much time and space, so to be short, this is the Olympics of Hip Hop dancing. Crews fly in from all over the world to represent their crew, their country, and their culture. Its beautiful to watch and its even more beautiful to participate in. For CODA, getting there has always been a challenge.

We are asking for donations to help us compete at the International Hip Hop Championships this summer. At the bare minimum, expenses will include airfare, hotel accommodations, transportation, dancer/crew participation fee, costumes, and meals for 7 days. At the very best the trip will most likely average out to be $700 per dancer. With 21 dancers, our company will have to raise just shy of $15,000 in order for everyone to be able to go. To be able to raise enough money, and given the opportunity to compete, especially with this brand new and exquisite group of dancers would mean the world to us. Please be a part of our CODA world and show us your support. We promise to represent the city of Chicago to the fullest and to make you proud.
