Diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 29 (very serious for a young person) and my insurance company helps by sticking me with the bill.

I was diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 29. I have a rare genetic disorder (more info here http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/gene/MLH1 ) that caused me to get cancer in the first place and could potentially bring several recurrences in the future. Statistics tell me that survival rates for someone like me is 5 years, a statistic I plan on beating.

In the event that I don't, the last thing I want is to leave this debt behind for my wife. My insurance company denied me all coverage of my medial bills leaving me with near $300,000.00 in debt. With the help of other charities and the state I had managed to take care of all my debt. That was until the hospitals own charity (where I received care) decided to only cover part of my outstanding debt. One day in the mail I received 14 bills (all at once) from the hospital telling me I had to pay aprox $25k in medical bills for my treatments and surgeries, all of which are "due now".

I've tried making payments to each bill but no matter the amount, it's not enough for them. Because of this they have started sending collection agencies after me destroying my financial life (credit history). For the past few months I have been receiving continuous harassing phone calls from them trying to collect the debt.

With no where else to turn I look to you for help no matter how big or small. I am a proud person that never asks for help, but with no where else to turn I no longer have a choice. Those of you who know me, know just how much I have lost and have been through this past year and half. For those who don't, on top of being diagnosed with colon cancer and coming within days of losing my life, I lost several people close to me.

All my wife and I want is to put all of this behind us and focus on keeping me healthy and alive as long as possible. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and considering helping me.

Add on: After over a year of fighting, the insurance company won and now I am truly on my own.
