All donations will go to all the medical debt Marni has inquired, upcoming surgeries, and the prescriptions that she has to take daily!!

Everyone has hard times and Marni Herskowitz has been fighting for her life and it all started from a ‘simple’ surgery (removal of tonsils) that went all wrong. Marni and her family have declined help in the past, but now they have reached a point that the medical bills and current prescriptions that Marni should be taking are so astronomical that her family deserves any help. It would mean the world to her if anyone can donate ANY amount, even $5.

Please read more about the burden and toll this quest has been for Marni, and please make your donation to help make a difference!

Thank you in advance for all donations!

I'm 27 years old and 2.5 years ago I was on the fast track to working with terminally ill children with Hospice while earning my Master's in Social Work...until a simple surgery took a horrible wrong turn.

After having my tonsils removed I became very dehydrated...I was hospitalized, developed pancreatitis which then left me with a bad gall bladder. I had my gall bladder removed, and unfortunately during surgery the laprascope snagged and caused a hernia. I went back in for what I thought was a simple procedure...and nearly lost my life. My intestines strangulated with my hernia, and after complaining for weeks they noticed I had an infected abdominal wall abscess. Pretty soon my entire abdominal cavity was filled with MRSA Staph infection that went to my blood, along with 3 bacterial infections and a regular Staph infection. I had surgery to remove the infection along with 8 weeks of IV antibiotics and 6 weeks of being attached to drains. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning of my journey.

My doctor's noticed I wasn't absorbing any nutrients and that I was still very sick and in a lot of pain; after nearly a year of debating what to do, the surgeon decided to open me up hip to hip...and NO one expected what she'd find. Every single one of my GI organs were enmeshed with one another, nothing was where it was just a disaster in every way imaginable. The surgeon literally took all of my insides out and placed them back where they belonged...but they didn't stay put for long. After arguing (along with losing another year of my life), and becoming so anemic I needed 28 iron infusions, I FINALLY found a doctor who was willing to listen to me and could see how bad my insides were...finding a surgeon to fix everything was a MAJOR problem, especially because in the process of everything, I lost my insurance.

My battle began May 26, 2009. In October of 2011, I was hospitalized for approximately 5 weeks. I went in for pain, but they soon determined that my stomach was up in my chest cavity too close to my heart and lungs, and before I knew it I was back to fighting for my life. I was in danger of aspirating and they needed to find someone that would operate on me...and fast.

Thankfully someone stepped up and operated on me, a robot named da Vinci (operated by a surgeon)...and I credit my life to the two of them. But unfortunately my journey is far from over.

After 6 major surgeries and countless procedures, I just recently got out of a 10 day hospital visit where they determined that my esophagus, stomach, and colon all have some kind of paralysis/motility problem. My life, including my health is far from being on the right track.

Throughout all of this my family has sacrificed EVERYTHING for me. I'd be lost without my incredible mom, grandma, brother, and my amazing friends who give me strength when I don't have enough to carry myself through. Because I'm so far from where I want to be in my life, physically, emotionally, and financially...I credit my family and friends for allowing me to make it this far. Without any of them and their continued support, I never would have made it out of my FIRST life-threatening situation, nevermind the second.

Many people have reached out to me...and for that I am grateful. The Facebook posts, the e mails, the texts, the cards, etc. all mean the world to me. Quite a few of you have asked if there's anything you can do for me, and I kindly declined. I am so grateful for ALL that everyone has given me, I never expected nor did I need anything more.

Unfortunately my medical bills and prescriptions cost so much money it has left us in some dire situations. My family is not one to ask for help, we never have been...but desperate times call for desperate measures, and I'm so thankful to have friends who have offered to step up and set up a site to help give my family the support we so desperately need.

All my love,
