The Denny Wheat Memorial fund has been created to help his family with the financial burden that came with his unexpected passing on 6/24/12

Denny Wheat, Sr began dating Terri on June 1, 1977. It was love at first sight and they were married on December 6, 1977. They had two children together, Denny Jr (34 years old) and Nicki (23 years old). Denny opened his business, Denny Wheat Construction, in approximately 1991, and soon became known as a “fair and honest man” throughout the construction community. Initially, the business was booming and Terri was able to stay home to raise the children and help with the business. However, when the economy started to go downhill, so did the business. Denny and Terri began struggling to pay their bills. Terri got a job in an attempt to assist with bills, but was laid off after about a year. After being laid off, Terri was unable to find another job due to a lack of computer knowledge in our technology-driven world. Terri and Denny were forced to cash out their retirement fund and life insurance policies about 4 years ago in an effort to pay the mortgage and keep their house. The retirement fund and life insurance policies quickly ran out and Terri and Denny began to struggle with the bills once more, and they were no longer able to afford health insurance. Denny Sr began feeling “bad” about a year ago but postponed seeing a doctor because they didn’t have health insurance and couldn’t afford any medical bills. Denny died of a massive heart attack on June 24, 2012 at the age of 53 after sharing 12,798 days of his life with Terri. Along with the grief of losing a spouse, Terri is now burdened with the thought of paying off the remaining $360,000 of their mortgage alone in an effort to save the home Terri and Denny built together. Their house is currently “upside-down” in the market, meaning if they sold the house today it would only sell for a maximum of $300,000, which would leave Terri with an additional $60,000 that she would need to pay off. Nicki, her fiancé Scott, their 3-month-old son Lucas, and Denny Jr’s two children (ages 6 and 4) currently live with Terri. Scott and Nicki are contributing to the bills as much as they can, but with the expenses of having a young infant are unable to pay the $4,000 in bills per month that have accrued (car payment, car insurance, mortgage, gas/electric, food, etc). Terri is planning on applying for the Workforce Assistance grant from Carroll Community College and taking a few courses in an attempt to improve her technological skills so she can get a job, but this takes time and they currently don’t have enough money saved up to pay even one month bills in full. The goal of this fundraiser is to raise enough money to pay their bills for 4-5 months along with providing Terri with health insurance for a year (a grand total of approximately 20,000). This amount would give Terri the time to apply for the Workforce Assistance grant, take a few courses to improve her technological skills and get a job without needing to uproot her 3 grandchildren, daughter and future son-in-law. Any contribution, no matter how small, would be appreciated. If you prefer to send a check directly to the family please contact Heather Lawson at heatherlawson87@gmail.com for further information.
