Give Relief A Chance and let\'s make March Disaster Relief Awareness month!

Two months ago, I was pulled onto a disaster relief effort to help bridge the communication gap between the US Navy and people on the ground during the Haiti catastrophe. Since then I've had the chance to work with some extraordinary people who have taken it upon themselves to make a difference in disaster stricken areas rather than depending on larger non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the governments themselves to take charge.

After learning that 80% of all relief efforts are coming from small NGOs and faith based organizations, myself and a few others were inspired to start a campaign for disaster relief. Thus we are focusing on raising $5,000 during the month of March for a few highlighted NGOs that have made a proven difference to those on the ground.

These funds will not go to a particular relief effort, but more so towards organizations that are continuously working together to help those who have been affected by natural disasters (i.e. the Chile and Haiti earthquakes).

Your donations will be split amongst the following NGOs (you will find all the website in the "Links" section below:

1. World Vision - A global Christian humanitarian charity organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.

2. InSTEDD - A non-profit, initially backed by Google.org, that harnesses the power of technology to improve collaboration for early detection and early response to emergencies, diseases, and disasters. Communication = the most needed resource during a disaster.

3. The Campanile Foundation - An independent non-profit organization designed to support San Diego State University. Donations to the SDSU Viz Center and its ongoing global disaster relief efforts can be made through the Campanile Foundation as the school’s charitable arm. For example, the Viz Center workers are helping provide the geospatial and imagery web services that are widely used by agencies and NGOs involved in the rebuilding of Haiti, as well as other disaster-response efforts in many challenging regions of the world. Groups like the HALO Corporation are assisting the Viz Center with on-site geo-tagging, situation awareness, and difficult work in the disaster area that are fed into the web services then delivered to the world via the Internet.

Your donations can be made anonymously and will ALWAYS be secure. GiveForward uses a PayPal like system that protects your identity.

Give Relief A Chance and let's make March Disaster Relief Awareness month!

Sincere thanks,
