Team Penni - Wu
In Jan 2012, when Penni was 12 weeks pregnant, her perinatologist found a mass the size of a golf ball in her uterus. He told her it was a fibroid and not to worry about she didn't. The "fibroid" continued to grow rapidly, and by April 1st, when they put her on hospitalized bedrest to save the pregnancy, it was the size of a volleyball. Our little Lukas (Wu) was born via C-Section at 29 weeks and six days weighing a little over 3 pounds and was 16" long. Penni had been bleeding for several days and had already received several pints of blood via transfusion. The doctors did not want to remove the fibroid during the section and opted to wait six weeks for her blood levels to return to normal. Complications forced their hand just six days later. They had to put balloons in her groin to stop her bleeding and give her several more pints. The surgery lasted six hours and resulted in devastating news. Neuro Endocrine Carcinoma. The oncologist could barely muster the words to tell her she would not live. He too had a premie daughter and knew how difficult being a parent of such a little one was on its own, let alone the challenges she faced. He ordered a PET scan and started a very aggressive chemotherapy. The PET, in the oncologist's words, was "very worrisome." It had spread considerably and was in six sets of lymph glands, including her aeortic, thyroid, lungs, bones, pelvic region. She would take chemo for three days, and have two weeks off, and start the process over again. We were shameless in asking for prayer. We too prayed every night and after three rounds of chemo, the Onc ordered another PET to see how she was progressing. The radiologist said that the hot spots were "resolved." What an answer to prayer! God is good!
Overall Penni spent one month in the hospital, and Wu two months. Even after insurance, the doctor & hospital bills are outrageous. To compound the insult, Penni was unable to go back to work which has resulted a sharp decline in income. Your help in any denomination would be appreciated!
