Thank you for joining “PROJECT CASSANDRA”. This fundraiser was initiated by Einstein High School as a surprise to help Mrs. Kovacs because … “The strength of our busy little worker bee is waning” (Jewel Sanders, Assistant Principal, Einstein High School). Cassandra Kovacs has done so much for so many and her staff, students, community, friends and family from around the world would like to give back.
This highly spirited wife and mother of two teenagers, who has taught thousands of students, hundreds of teachers, ran marathons, scuba dived and scurried from place to place with purpose and passion, is now confined to a wheelchair. As one of her students said, “Mrs. Kovacs, if you ever have a day that you can’t walk or run, I will carry you.” That day has come. We are all uniting to help her set up the first floor of her split level home to make this transition for her as simple and smooth as possible.
Cassandra has been at Einstein for 12 years serving her community and sharing her talents and her love with everyone she meets. She has worked with Special Education Students, both emotionally and learning disabled, and is a Nationally Board Certified Biology Teacher. Most recently, she has worked as the Staff Development Teacher offering professional learning and growth opportunities for the staff. Three years ago, Cassandra was diagnosed with an aggressive form of triple negative breast cancer. Her family, her friends and her school community have lovingly supported her through chemo and radiation. Teaching was the spark that provided her with the motivation to battle bravely, as many counted on her and whenever called upon, she always answered.
One year later, with great sadness, she was informed that the cancer had metastasized to her bones, and then nine months after that, it had spread to her liver. She continued to provide unwavering support to both her home and her Einstein families. During her clinical trial at NIH, Cassandra discovered the cancer had spread to her spine and her brain impairing her mobility and finally slowing her down.
This is not your everyday ‘rejuvenation’, this is “Project Cassandra”!
Thank you to everyone, for your prayers, your time, your love and your generous help.
