Volunteering for a non-profit, and had an accident that has left me out of work, with medical bills piling on top of everyday expenses.

So, back in January, I was volunteering for a wonderful non-profit organization and was severely injured that left me in a wheelchair. I am slowly beginning to walk again using a walker, and have much more recovery to come. I've had some people mention I should contact a personal injury attorney, and dont even want to think about talking to an attorney to see if the non-profit would be able to pay for damages, plus I would feel extremely weird going back to volunteer for this awesome organization if I did sue them for damages, not to mention I signed a liability waiver suggesting I would not do such a thing. I had to go onto FMLA for work, but that only lasts 12 weeks, and as of now my "scheduled" date to return to work is at about 16 weeks. I was able to get the dr to take off a couple weeks from my return, but no way does he think I will be able to return to work before my FMLA expires.

I have about a 50/50 chance of returning to my employer. Luckily I had medical insurance that is paying for most of the damages, but I am still left with no income, and about $8,000 in medical expenses that are my responsibility. And since I am not physically able to return to work after the 12 weeks of FMLA, if the company does decide to lay me off, I wont qualify for unemployment.

The saying: No good deed goes unpunished is definitely my case

My wife and I were planning a trip to go see her sister that had moved to Australia for work a couple years ago and may not move back to the states, as well as trying to purchase our first home in the next couple years. Now that we have had this string of bad luck (and some recent car repairs so she can continue to work) we have depleted all of our savings and trying to sell any thing we have extra or really can live without so we can to get bills paid. Anything really helps.

I thank you ahead for anything, Please feel free to pass around to your churches or groups that may be able to help our family out during these trying times.
