Raising funds to offset surgery costs for Mickey, a blue Doberman Pinscher that has survived cancer, and now needs to beat a spinal injury.

It's been an up and down ride for Mickey, our beautiful Doberman Pinscher.
In August of 2011 he was diagnosed with lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system. This is the same type of cancer that his buddy Gus died from in July of 2010. Mickey started chemotherapy treatments immediately, and finished in February 2012. His vet was ecstatic at how well the treatments went, and how healthy Mickey was. All seemed good in his world.

Then, in March of 2012, Mickey began to suffer sharp painful stabs of pain if he turned his head in certain directions, or went down steps. The pain became worse, and he also began to suffer from "buckling" when his front paws would knuckle under as he tried to walk, causing him to stumble and fall. All of this progressed in under a week from happy and bounding through the yard, to suffering and almost immobile.

Mickey is currently at VRCC vet hospital waiting to undergo an MRI and possibly surgery to correct a suspected herniated disc in his neck which is causing this problem.

At the same time, I have been laid off from my job, and am looking for work. We have launched a fundraising effort to help offset some of the expected $6500 costs for this procedure. Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated. He is the sweetest boy, and (if the surgery is succesful) we look forward to seeing him run and play again.

UPDATE: Mickey went through the MRI where the doctor found he had a large rupture between his C5 and C6 vertebrae. They performed surgery, and the rupture has been repaired. Dr Lane, our super neurosurgeon is confident that Mickey will soon be on the road to walking again.

St Patricks Day: Mickey was released from the hospital today. He is doing well, a little unsteady at times on his feet, but that should pass soon. He is very restricted on activities for the new few weeks but he is happy to be home. Final bill for the whole thing came to $8,053. I will be ending the fundraiser on Monday, 3/19. If you can help out, it will be greatly appreciated. I have been humbled by some of the responses I have gotten from family, friends, and even complete strangers that have donated. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
