Rena is 3 yrs old, she was diagnosed with a Wilms Tumor on June 8, 2010. She had to have one kidney removed. She has recieved chemo b/c the cancer spread to her lungs but the chemo is not working.

Rena now needs radiation. Rena now needs you.

Rena has been treated at a local hospital in Tampa, FL. The surgeons who removed Rena’s kidney and main tumor came highly recommended and the surgery went smoothly.

However, the oncology group that has been treating Rena with chemo since the surgery has made a grave oversight in her diagnosis and therefore the treatment protocol since then. Lab results that showed the cancer has spread to her lymph nodes were NOT included in Rena’s original treatment plan. So instead of getting radiation AND chemo, Rena was only receiving chemo. She had missed out on 5 weeks of treatment with radiation.

This has caused the family to loose faith in the doctors who would continue to treat Rena for the next 6 months.

Mommy and Daddy have done a lot of research and decided that in order to get Rena the best possible care, they are transferring her to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Rena and Mommy hope to be staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Philly. The RM House is a great program and much cheaper than any other options. But Rena and Mommy will be there for about 6 months. The costs will add up. In addition to paying for the stay, there will be the daily cost of living and possible travel back to Florida (when Rena is well enough) to visit Daddy and baby sister Sophia (2 years old). Daddy and Sophia will try to make some trips to Philly to visit Rena and Mommy but that will be costly as well.

This family will be apart for months.

In addition to this financial burden, Daddy used all of his paid vacation time at work during the initial diagnosis, surgery and treatment Rena went through during June and July. Daddy has the benefit of FMLA at work so his job is secure but any time he has to take off going forward will be unpaid.

For now, we are trying to raise enough money to help pay for the expense of Rena and Mommy being in Philly for 6 months. If we can lift that worry and burden from this family, that would be a blessing!!!

Please help with any amount you can. Even small amounts will add up.
