Ashleys battle against cancer and egg harvesting. Funding medical costs and related expenses not covered by insurance.

My 29 year old, daughter Ashley was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2012. The news of the diagnosis hit her and her family like a semi truck speeding along 100 miles an hour. This speeding truck has not stopped nor offered any type of respite during this journey. After undergoing a lumpectomy she immediately underwent a bilateral mastectomy. When speaking with her Oncologist it was determined she needed 6 rounds of chemotherapy. At this time the Oncologist told her she should never have another child because of damage to her ovaries. She was DEVASTATED!! Her insurance pays for most of her cancer treatment but does not cover egg retrieval, blood work, ultrasounds, medications, storage and IVF. My daughter dedicates her life to her 8 year old son and children in general. The thought of her being unable to conceive another child has devastated her. Her son is an honor student and runs track and field. He actually qualified for the Junior Olympics but was unable to participate because of everything that was happening. She has worked as a Special Needs Aid for 11 years. During the past years she works very closely with a young boy with Autism. This young man reflects the dedication and support she tends to him with the look in his eyes. Ashley has donated so much of her own time to children’s events during and after school. She eats right, exercises regularly and completed the recent LA Marathon. She also went back to college and received her Bachelor’s in Human Services in Management. She is a wonderful daughter and is very dedicated to her family. At one point her fathered needed a kidney transplant and she wanted to donate hers, but unfortunately she was not compatible. This broke her heart. There are many other facts I could write about her but they would all filter to the same output. That of a loving, caring, dedicated mother and daughter and family member, I ask you step onto this road with her, take her hand along with others and allow her the opportunity of having a child in the future.
Thank you,
Lesley Crawford
A very special daughter’s grateful mother
