Manny's medical costs have escalated with multiple surgeries and no health insurance. Please help to cover these costs by donating today.

The year 2010 has been a challenge for Manny. Unfortunately Manny is unemployed and the medical costs have spirialed from the hospitalizations, surgeries, and aftercare. He needs help to pay them down.

Manny is a diabetic and in February his foot got infected. He spent 2 weeks in the hospital and had 2 surgeries to treat the infection that caused tremendous damage to the foot and resulted in the removal of a bone. The recovery time has been measured in months.

Then in October, another infection on that same foot resulted in additional surgery and hospitalization. The doctor did not know if he needed to amputate 2 toes, 1/2 the foot, or the entire foot - only in surgery would he find out. As it turned out, 2 toes were amputated. The infection is extremely aggressive and the amputation resulted after only 36 hours from the onset of the infection. It was a very stressful time.

Once the foot has healed, Manny will need to be fitted for specially made orthopedic shoes. These shoes will allow him to walk naturally and protect the feet from future injury.

He also has recently had laser treatments to reduce the inflammation in his eyes from retinal leakage. Once the inflammation is controlled, then the doctors will discuss cataract removal surgery in both eyes.

Driving under normal circumstances is ok, but anything outside of normal circumstances is a challenge for Manny.

"Boo Boo" as he is called by his Granddaughters does not like asking for help, yet he is the first one to help others in need. He volunteers weekly with an organization for his brother and others with special needs. Every year he raises money for the National Down Syndrome Society's "Buddy Walk". Then there are the countless times he comes to the aid of his friends and family whenever needed.

Please give what you can. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.
