The family of Robert Balmes, Marine Veteran are uniting to raise money for his medical expenses at home to make it wheelchair accessible.

Organized by Lisa Peterson

My step father had his left leg amputated above the knee unexpectedly on 3-9-12. He was hospitalized at the VA for 6 weeks. After having physical therapy to gain upper extremity strength, learn coping skills, transfers and so forth he is being discharged 4-9-12 because the wheelchair ramp is done!.

We need A LOT of wheel chair accessible work done in his home for him to get around. The VA is giving him a grant that appears to be about $7500 less than the bids we've gotten.

The good news is the VA provided the RAMP and put it up on Easter Day 4-8-12. Amen to the contractors who gave there time on that Holiday =)

Therefore we need doors widened, carpet removed & replaced with hard wood floor or thin commercial carpet because of a bad heart condition as well & the thicker carpet will be too hard on him. We need counter tops done, kitchen accessible for him to cook, use sink etc... the bathroom remodeled with a roll in shower, vanity access, toilet, etc....

He lives in a mobile home so everything is differently sized then a regular house or apartment. There is a lot of work & changes that need to be done.

I've contacted his VFW for a pancake breakfast to raise money & have reached out to other avenues as well. We'd like to get this done ASAP so he can move about the home easily.

PLEASE HELP US to HELP HIM. No amount is too small & is greatly appreciated!

Many of you have offered volunteering your time to do the tear out. I'm all for it & then we can bring the contractor in to cut costs. Just need to figure out electrical things & such...Any ideas??

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this & consider helping him =)
