Hope For Ashley Greene
The family and friends of Ashley Greene are uniting to raise money to help Ashley with her battle against Ciliary Body Melanoma.
On December 7, 2011 Ashley was diagnosed with Ciliary Body Melanoma. Ciliary Body Melanoma is a rare tumor that is found behind the iris diaphragm and is often discovered by a dark spot found in the eye. Once the Cancer was discovered Ashley started receiving treatment immediately at The Wills Eye Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA. In February 2012, Ashley underwent radiation and in May 2012 we learned the radiation had ultimately killed the tumor. While her tumor is dead, Ashley is still in the fight of her life with this horrible Cancer.
The rate of metastasis, especially hepatic, is great with this cancer. Once discovered, the metastasis has usually passed the point of effective treatment. Ashley’s doctors believe the cancer has already metastasized but has not shown up on her scans yet. At the age of 25, she has been given two choices. She can “sit, scan and wait for it to show up” as the doctor has said, or she can attack the cancer head-on. Ashley has been asked to join a clinical study in San Diego. This study uses a combination of three cancer drugs to try and stop the metastases and ultimately save her life. She will be one of a very small group with this rare cancer who is taking part in this important research to find a cure. Being a nurse herself, Ashley knows what her future can look like as a chemo patient and as a cancer victim. Being a young person, she knows what she wants her future to look like and is willing to take the great step and join the study; for her own good and for the good of other victims of this cancer.
Ashley is the Daughter of Vernon and Sandy Greene, the Sister of Aimee Puffenbarger, Lisa Greene and Michael Greene and the Aunt of Carter Puffenbarger. As you can imagine, this has and will continue to take quite a toll on Ashley and our family, emotionally and financially. When Ashley begins her treatment in San Diego, she will be responsible for covering all costs which include airfare, lodging, food, car rentals, co-pays and so on. While Ashley is fighting this never ending battle, we would like to ease her worries by helping eliminate some of her mounting medical bills. While we can’t change the circumstances, at least we can help make things a little easier for Ashley.
Our family would like to thank you all for the support, donations and most importantly prayers. While we don’t always understand the obstacles God places in our lives, we continue to look to him for the love, strength, courage and support during this difficult time and pray each and every day for Ashley.
We know Ashley loves her family and friends immensely and would love to hear from you. Please send any cards or well wishes to Sandy’s home address: 522 Thomas Run Road, Bel Air, MD 21015.
Once again, thank you for your continued love, support and prayers!
Vernon, Sandy, Aimee, Lisa, Michael and Carter
