Janet has been on dialysis for 23 years. When she was first diagnosed with kidney failure, she was a trooper and faithfully did what the doctor ordered. She is a selfless woman who raised her sister as one of her own. Throughout her struggle as a single mother she never complained. She used to have energy to take care of her children who graduated from high school or got a GED.
As the years progressed her health has worsened and she now goes to dialysis three days a week for about four hours each day. Throughout the years various family members offered her one of their kidneys but she didn't accept because she said they were young and had the rest of their lives ahead of them. She just soldiered on through the pain, and many surgeries to find access to her veins, and all the various medication she has had to take.
The many years of dialysis has taken a toll on her body. Her appearance has changed drastically with scars on her arms and legs that have been used for access. In January, her arm burst while she was sleeping and she nearly bled out on the bed. She had a severe infection and the doctors weren't sure she would make it. With God's grace she has pulled through and had surgery to place an access in one of her legs. In July, that leg burst open while she attended a baby shower for her unborn grandchild. She has another infection and the surgeons replaced the equipment. She has finally accepted her sister's offer of a kidney. She is tired of fighting, tired of the pain, the poking, and the prodding. She wants to give up and her friends and family refuse to let her. Please help us give her a chance at a normal life again.
