The family and friends of Dana & Zayda Stewart are coming together to help bring Dana comfort and dignity as he battles ALS.

Last year, Dana Stewart was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease). The news shocked and devastated our family. ALS is a progressive, fatal, neurodegenerative disease characterized by rapid muscle atrophy and loss of motor function. A lifelong runner and soccer coach for his four children, Dana can no longer walk and relies on a wheelchair to get around. Although he has gradually lost control of his physical functions, the disease does not affect his mental abilities or awareness. Dana still enjoys listening to music, has retained his wonderful sense of humor, and plans to celebrate his 30th wedding anniversary this June. Despite the sobering fact that only about 25% of patients survive more than 5 years with the disease, Dana has remained strong and is an inspiration to those around him.

Our family has worked to come to terms with the prognosis and to prepare for the care Dana needs now and in the years ahead. We are blessed by his presence in our lives, and proudly stand by him as he faces this terrible disease. The funds raised in this campaign will go towards the prohibitive costs associated with in-home care and transportation to and from Dana’s medical appointments, neither of which are covered by the family’s insurance. Any and all help is welcome and very much appreciated.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Zayda, wife, and kids Matt, Don, Abby, and Elsie
