Please help our family & friends to raise money to help Joan with her traveling expenses for her treatments as she battles cancer.

Joan Beck has been a hard working wife and Mother of three her entire life. She worked up until the age of 69 and continued to constantly work around the house and never sit still. She's one of the strongest, kindest women you could ever meet. Her husband, Ted is just the same.

Unfortunately, Ted got hurt on a job site in 2007 and has been disabled ever since. They ended up having to sell their home of more than 25 years and relocate but they have thankfully met a lot of wonderful people and have started a new life.

However, within 4 years, they were both diagnosed with diabetes and then in October 2010, Joan had a major back surgery. While she was recovering from surgery, she received terrible news in April 2011; Joan will battle cancer one more time. She was a long time cancer survivor of 20 years but didn’t expect to face it again. She woke up one morning with surprising symptoms and had no idea. After rushed to the hospital, she was transported to Trinity Mother Francis and after spending 6 days there, they found two cancerous tumors in her bladder that were removed and then after more tests, they found small cell carcinoma in her lung. After this sudden, surprising news, the doctors told her she would undergo chemo for a month, 3 days a week and radiation 5 days a week for a little over 6 weeks at the same time; followed up by more treatment and surgery.
Joan finally went into remission on her lung and the doctors didn’t think it would come back. Unfortunately, the cancer came back in her brain, lung & she still suffers from bladder cancer. She has completed several doses of radiation on her brain miraculously while battling claustrophobia. Now she is back on chemo and radiation for her lung cancer. Her treatment takes place an hour away from her home, which means she is doing a lot of traveling everyday against her fight.

With the high copayments of chemo that insurance may not cover and gas money driving two hours daily to get there and back; it will be taking a toll on her. She has been in and out of the hospital since she started. Last year during treatment she went into the hospital because her white blood cell count was at 0. She had a viral infection and struggled everyday she was there trying to build her immune system. Thank God, she came out with strength to keep fighting. She is going through such a life threatening fight but the doctors are almost positive she can go into remission if she gets through this.

She will need all the support and prayers she can get. We are hoping to fundraise as much as we can to make this fight possible for her and her husband. Her husband takes wonderful care of her and is a huge support for her, as well as all her wonderful family & friends she has. Any little fundraising we can do together will alleviate any added stress that may come their way with this fight. Even if it’s not financial, with all of our support, she will gain a lot of positive reinforcement to fight and make it through this.
