Family & friends are uniting to raise money to pay for medical costs not covered by insurance & traveling expenses to MD Anderson

We are SO blessed that 36% of the MD Anderson bill has been reached!! Thank you so much to all that have given. The Overfield family would like to thank everyone for their support and for their prayers. Hallie just finished her first semester at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas studying radiology. Hallie and Mom just returned from MD Anderson on May 17th after having a cognitive test and brain MRI done. Hallie is having some problems with recall and memory. These test were done to see if chemo may have affected a part of her brain. Hope to get test results back the week of May 20th.The next visit to MD Anderson will be on July 30, 2013.

The day before Thanksgiving 2011, the Overfield family found out that their 22 year old daughter, Hallie, had stage 3 Hodgkins lymphoma. With this diagnosis, they finally found out the reason she had been so sick for so long. Hallie was immediately admitted to the hospital at MD Anderson in Houston where she remained for 5 days. On the 5th day, she started chemo treatments and a trial drug, Rituxan.

Hallie and her mom. Kathy, returned to Houston every week for 6 weeks. She then continued her chemo treatments at Mary Bird in Baton Rouge, traveling back to Houston once a month. About three months into the chemo treatments, the doctors discovered that one of the chemo drugs, bleomycin, was damaging Hallie's lungs. This drug was immediately removed from the regimen of chemo. Doctors will be monitoring her lungs closely over the next 4 1/2 years.

In May, Hallie started running a high fever. Tests revealed that she had a staph infection on the tip of her PICC line that traveled to her lungs. The PICC was removed and placed in other arm and she remained in the hospital for 17 days. In June, after the infection was cleared up, Hallie was able to receive her last chemo treatment. She will be returning to MD Anderson every 3 months for a year and then fewer visits every year until she reaches the 5 year mark.

Hallie has been unable to work since diagnosed. Friends and family have been so wonderful and the Overfield's are so grateful. This campaign has been set up so that the Overfield's will be able to pay off all of the cancer related expenses not paid by their health insurance.

This past September 13th, Hallie and Kathy were returning home from MD Anderson when their van (Mom's beloved "Blue") was struck by lightening on Interstate 10 in Bridge City, Texas and totaled.

Since Hallie's diagnosis in November, friends have held two very successful fundraisers and the Overfield's have been overwhelmed by the response. Not only from these two fundraisers, but from the kindness of friends, donating gas cards, cash cards, money, hotel rooms and lodging. This unbelievable kindness has sustained them over the past 8 months and made it possible for them to be able to pay the monthly medical bills, plus make the trips to MD Anderson. This fundraiser money and past donations will eventually run out, though and the Overfield's will find it hard to make that monthly payment to MD Anderson.

Those of you that know this family, know that it is not easy for them to ask others for help. Now that Hallie has completed her 6 months of chemo, they are thanking God because they are now seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. They, too, know that they have this obligation to pay MD Anderson the fees that are not covered by their insurance.

Hallie is a HUGE New Orleans Saints fan! Please consider joining Hallie's Who Dats with a donation anytime between September 3rd and December 21st. Every donation, no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated. If you would rather not use Paypal, you can mail a donation to Hallie at 22525 Fairway View, Zachary, La 70791.  All donations will be used the pay the remaining balances at MD Anderson and Our Lady of the Lake, along with future visits to MD Anderson over the next 4 1/2 years.

On behalf of Hallie, her family thanks you for your prayers and support. Please continue to keep Hallie in your prayers as she continues her recovery, fighting like a girl!
