Join Ruth's family and friends in her fight against cancer. Funds to cover her medical costs and related expenses not covered by insurance.

Several months ago, my mother visited a doctor due to severe pain in her back. On the morning of her only son's wedding, she found out her back was fractured.

Several weeks later, doctors performed additional tests, as her back didn't seem to be healing. They located a mass in her back that was preventing the bone from fusing back together, as well as multiple lesions on her liver.

A biopsy was done and doctors shared with her that her prognosis was not good, giving her six months to a year to live.

Although fortunate in having health insurance, co-pays
alone can quickly add up for the treatment she requires.

Ruth is only 50 years old and led a very healthy life until this news. She is happily married and has two children, 25 and 28.

As many of you may already know, she's been a fighter since the day she was born. She was born with Cerebral Palsy from the waist down and doctors said she'd never walk. Not only did she defy their prediction, she enjoys golfing and bowling and has never let her C.P. prevent her from doing any of the things she loves.

It is crucial that we get her back on her feet again, so that she can fight this diagnosis. As she has always been a very independent person, it's important that she is able to function physically during this emotional struggle.

Any help you can give will certainly ease the financial stress and keep focus on fighting this cancer. Please share this link with anyone who may be willing to help, as every little bit will contribute to her quality of life.

UPDATE: Since we first set up this website, Ruth has been through quite a lot. She successfully endured 10 radiation treatments to her liver/back to allow those lesions to shrink and prevent them from spreading. In the interim, the cancer spread to her brain. She's gone through another 10 radiation treatments to her brain and is losing her hair.
As of today (7-26-11), Ruth is in the hospital dealing with a blood clot that was in her leg which broke off and is now near her midsection--her doctors are treating her for the clots and so far have held off on chemotherapy. Her doctor, Dr. Resta of New York Oncology Hematology, remains hopeful that she'll be able to start chemotherapy once she leaves the hospital.
UPDATE (8-5-11): Ruth's liver has swelled to double it's size and is resting on her blood vessels. This is making blood flow to her legs limited and as such, they are swollen terribly and she cannot walk. She is still in the hospital and we've decided to begin chemotherapy today. Hopefully she'll be strong enough to make it through the chemo so that she can go home soon (and walk again). Although Ruth will not be able to attend, we're having a benefit for her on Saturday, August 6th from 2-8pm--for more details, please email:

UPDATE (8-29-11): Contrary to her doctor's expectations, Ruth completed her first round of chemotherapy. Her body was indeed strong enough to accept this treatment! She is currently at home, and this past Thursday got another chemotherapy treatment. We are hopeful that this round is easier than the last and that she makes it through. After this, she will be going to have some tests done to see what effects the chemo has had and whether it is appropriate to continue.
