Alysia "Niki" Romero's family, friends, and family in Christ are uniting to raise money to help with her battle against melanoma cancer.

It was a normal weekend but on Sunday morning Alysia "Niki" Romero woke up with a terrible headache. Two days later she was admitted December 17, 2013 to UNM hospital after going in to the ER. What she thought was just a migraine turned out to be a tumor that bled into her brain.

Two days later Niki had surgery to have the "golf ball" size tumor removed and sent to the lab to identify the type of tumor. The pathology report stated it was metastatic melanoma. Her MRI also reported another tumor behind her left eye.

By God's grace the surgery was successful and Niki left the hospital on December 23rd with no serious neurological deficits from the tumor or surgery.

She now has a series of doctors appointment for the next steps in her treatment to fight melanoma.

Niki and her family also plan to seek an appointment with the world renown cancer center MD Anderson in Houston, Texas as soon as possible. Since Alysia did not have insurance for January 2014, the first medical deposit for MD Anderson is 40,000.

For the last fews years of Niki's life she has been dedicated to pursue her bachelor degree in Family Studies with a minor in Psychology to become a Social Worker to help struggling families and children. She only has ONE more semester to graduation set for May 2014!!!! Pray if the Lord wills she will finish her degree.

Niki is a 26 years single young lady with a passion for life. Everywhere she goes she just loves. Her family, her friends, her work, her schooling, and especially children in her life, and her Lord and Savior. She has always had a passion and desire to help young kids. She started off working in an under privileged community with the YMCA for 3 years.

Then she became a preschool teacher while working for 7 years at St John's United Methodist Church. She loved to celebrate the preschoolers' reaching their milestones and sitting with them during circle time singing and being silly!!

Niki has also been intimately involved working with and temporarily for the Albuquerque Christian Children's Home. It is a long term care residences for children whom have experienced traumatic events in their lives. Niki loves those children and her co-workers at the center and often expresses her joy and love for those kids especially when she sits and eats dinner with all of them like a family.

Most importantly to Niki is her faith in and love for her Savior Jesus Christ. She has been a Christian since she was 7 years old and has served her Savior going on mission trips to Mexico, Macedonian, Hungry, Greece, and South Dakota. She knows that her God is a faithful, good, a sovereign King who rules over all---even over cancer.

Niki asks that you pray that the Lord will continue to reveal Himself to her, family, and friends and that the Lord will guard their hearts and minds against the enemy and to use this trial in her life to glorify the name of His Son, Jesus.

Niki's favorite verse is Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on the Lord. And He shall sustain you. He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
