I will be running my first half marathon in honor of the LOVESWEET Memorial Fund and the memory of TSgt Jessica Sweet

Why am I doing this? It all starts with a sweet baby...

After completing an internship on Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany, I became a full-time employee at the Child Development Center, where I had the priviledge to get to know many amazing military children and their families. When Raymond enrolled in my classroom, I had no way of knowing how much him and his family would forever touch my life. On a regular basis, his mother, TSgt Jessica Sweet, would come visit Ray during her lunch break.  It was through these regular visits that I came to fully understand how much of an inspiration Jessica was.  Her positive attitude, caring manner and determined perserverance shone increasingly bright. She was president of the parent advisory board, organized fundraising efforts for the local Ronald McDonald House, an inspiring fitness fanatic, proud to serve her country and loved her family with all of her heart. Her down-to-earth and positive personality made it easy for anybody to immediately love her. When she left for her deployment to the Middle-East it broke my heart and I thought of her daily while I loved and cared for her infant son.  She returned to Germany 4 months later safe and sound and to find Raymond transitioned to the next older classroom.

In September of 2008, Jessica was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and flown to Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. from Landstuhl, Germany. Jessica passed away on February 12th 2009 from complications from the rigorous treatment.  She is rememberd in the hearts of her husband, Chris, and three children, Katelyn, Ashelyn and Raymond.

I will be running my first half marathon on July, 3rd, 2010 in Steamboat Springs, CO in honor of LOVESWEET and the positive impact Jessica has brought to this world, not only in her lifetime, but here after.

The LOVESWEET Memorial Fund annually distributes awards to the Parents and Children Fighting Cancer charity, which supports military children in the Washington metropolitan area who are battling cancer.  Annual distributions are also awarded to the Fisher House charity, which supports America's military by providing a "home away from home" in their time of need. The Fisher House enables family members to be close to their loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.

I thank you in advance for your kind donation that will allow Jessica's caring and compassionate spirit to continue making a positive impact.
