The family and friends of Marilyn Gross are uniting to raise money to help with her battle against kidney cancer. Please show your support!

This pains me to even ask for help but for the first time in my life, I have to. Our wonderful mother Marilyn, affectionately known as Lady M, underwent very complex and difficult cancer surgery on March 5th but on March 2nd. One of my sisters, Debbie and I drove all night through the terrible tornadoes in Atlanta to get down to her in Florida as she was rushed to the hospital that morning.

We are really finding out quickly what medicare and insurance don't cover and could use some help.

If you would rather send a check, please feel free to do so. Write it out in her name (Marilyn Gross) and mail it to:

Mom had a very rare form of cancer which is found in less than 1% of the cases but it is also the most aggressive kidney cancer. They removed a kidney and part of her inferior vena cava and replaced the portion with an artificial graft. Although medicare picks up a lot, we're getting financially nailed on many things that aren't covered, even with her supplement insurance, like certain diagnostic tests that were necessary before she was admitted. During that time we had to have daily homecare to monitor her. She then got worse very quickly and was transported by ambulance to the hospital and of course these aren't covered. I've been going through some of the bills since then and it's very exhausting how much and quickly they are piling up. We haven't even received the bills from the hospital and rehab facility yet. Those on Facebook have seen just how close our family is and how much we include our mother in our activities even though we live in different states. I have been down here in Florida for a month now sleeping on a fold out cot next to her hospital bed. I've been able to hold her hand at night and provide support and comfort as best as possible.

The day before the surgery, I had a talk with her to get her mind strong and determined. I asked her to continuously repeat a mantra before they took her into surgery: "I Believe I will kick ass. I Know I will kick ass. I Will kick ass!" They had already taken my mom into the surgical suite and then an hour later the "other shoe" dropped. My sister Debbie and I were summoned and escorted into the surgical prep area where the urologist, vascular surgeon, and many other team members waited for us. It seems that in only a few short days since her last CAT scan, things had gotten worse. The tumor had completely surrounded the vena cava and this then presented a VERY serious problem. As the vascular surgeon stated that he's done these many times but this was not something that is seen every day or very often. We were then presented three surgical/non-surgical options, none of which were very promising at all. So much so that he brought us over to our mom so we could say some final thoughts to her, just in case! Holy crap!! 3 hours later one of the surgical staff came out to us and said that the surgery went extremely well and she did great! In fact her pressure (which had been a problem) stayed level the entire surgery! Their worst fears of her bleeding out during the sectioning of the vena cava turned out to be almost no bleeding at all. When we finally got to see her in CCU 4 hours later, one of the first things she said to us in her very groggy state was, "I KICKED ASS!!" How amazing was that?! Those of you who know me and know what a smart ass I am, NOW you know where I get it from!!!

So, the Power of Prayer, guided these surgeons hands AND the power above made sure that the main concerns, pressure and bleeding, turned out to be non problematic.

There still is a long way to go as mom has had a serious set back and is again in a critical care area.

If you have any questions, or suggestions or just need to contact a representative for the family please send a note to me at
