Need help paying for funeral costs for my husband. I am on a very tight fixed income and need assistance.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to read this about my husband, Johnny. Johnny was born in Austria and came to this Country when he was 5 years old, with his Mother, Father and Sister. As an adult, Johnny wore "many hats" in different jobs including a job as a "special police officer" with CMHA and as an Immigration Inspector with INS. He worked hard, but always had a passion for life. When he was just a teenager - he joined the Marine Corp. and served in Vietnam from 1968-1969 as a machine gunner. (Echo 2/5). He was a POW and miraculously survived that and managed to escape his captors. He left the service under Honorable conditions after his tour of duty was completed. Johnny in later years, developed many illnesses including having throat cancer (which was due to drinking contaminated water with Agent Orange, which was heavily used during the Vietnam war). He also had Type II diabetes, Hypothyroidism, Hypertension, Congestive Heart Failure, Digestive disorders, and as a complication of the cancer - he had to have a modified-radical neck dissection done (this is where they remove lymph nodes and nerves and tendons in the involved area). As a result of the surgery, he developed "frozen shoulder" and always had difficulty swallowing. (he said it felt like a constant belt tightened around the neck). On Christmas Eve 2010 - he had a slip and fall accident on ice and landed in the Hospital in ICU. He experienced 3 major organ failures and was put on Dialysis. His prognosis did not look good. But through another miracle - Johnny pulled through, but it would take lots of rehab and therapy before he would be able to come home. He was then transferred to a SNF and was in there for a year before he was finally able to come home this past February (shortly after his Birthday!), It was a long haul - but he was on the road to recovery as he was working out several nights a week doing land and aqua therapy, to help develop his strength and to walk better. Then - on August 14th, the worst thing in the world happened - my beloved husband had a heart attack that was only made worse by his underlying condition. He was rushed to the hospital, but there was nothing more that could be done. My husband died that day and I am devastated. On top of the grief, I have an enormous Funeral bill to pay, though the cost was kept as minimal as possible. the funeral did not have any frills, but even a "bare bones" type service reaches easilt into the thousands of dollars. I am on a very tight fixed income and would welcome and appreicate any financial assistance that could be given. Johnny gave so much in service to his Country, and although the Government pays for the burial - the funeral cost itself is out-of-pocket, and is not within reach at this time. Please help. I thank you for your time and consideration to this matter.
