The family and friends of Shana are uniting to raise money to help get her a treatment that could save her life. Thank you for helping.
Shana is my beautiful, young 31 year daughter who has stage IV metastatic liver cancer. She is a single Mom of 3 children who she adores. She is one of the kindest people I know. To know her is to truly love her.
Shana had surgery in June 2010 for pancreatic cancer. They successfully removed 1/3 of her pancreas, gall bladder and a piece of her liver. Shana did well for about 1 year and in April 2011 they discovered the cancer had spread to her liver.
Currently Shana is doing treatment at The Dana Farber Cancer Hospital in Boston, Mass. The treatment is a clinical trial drug. The drug is Everolimus + Pasireotide. The clinical trial # is 11-375 if you would like more details.
So far, Shana seems to be tolerating the drugs ok. However, it does come with side affects. She goes for her treatments once a month, and has an ocreotide scan (to detect any new or advancement of the current tumors.)
We are exploring a more holistic approach to treating Shana's cancer. Right now Shana is seeing Dr Dustin Sulak at Integrated Health in Falmouth, Maine. (along with the clinical trial)
All money raised will help Shana pursue the best possible treatment to continue living a healthy, happy life.
We believe in the power of prayer, so, if your gift is to pray for her we are truly grateful. I am grateful for any way people can help Shana win her battle with cancer. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Shana's Mom Please follow my blog: http://www.lorimckenney.blog.com/ for updates on Shana.
