This is the Linda Sharp Liver Transplant Fund. The funds will be used for her medical costs not covered by insurance.

The family & friends of Linda Sharp are uniting to raise funds to help with the cost of a liver transplant. Please show your love & support.

In 2007, shortly after being laid-off from her employer of 26 years, Linda became ill with symptoms that baffled local doctors. After a multitude of testing, multiple doctors, biopsies, and numerous hospitalizations, we started seeking medical attention at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics in Iowa City, IA. The doctors suspected something to do with the liver just as her father had suffered and eventually died from. After more testing from each time she was ill & hospitalized, they realized she does suffer from cryptogenic cirrhosis of the liver. They also discovered that her liver failure was complicated by birth defects of the portal veins of the liver. Her only hope is a liver transplant.

While she awaits a new liver, she was put on a heavy dose of diuretics to help the liver with fluid and keep her from developing large amounts of fluid (called ascites) in the abdomin. These large fluid amounts eventually lead Linda to suffer from an abdominal hernia. In April 2011, the hernia ruptured and she was airlifted from Cedar Rapids hospital to U of IA Hospitals & Clinics. She was in grave danger with blood pressure approximately 2 minutes away from death. After spending 5 days in intensive care and another 5 days in the hospital she was released and 3 weeks later she returned to have the hernia repaired.

Now the diuretic medication has taken their toll on her kidneys so she has been taken off of them and now has to have her abdomin tapped (a procedure called a paracentesis) to relieve the fluid on a weekly basis. On average, they drain 9 liters of fluid each week. Imagine, drinking a liter of fluid every day and it is never released from your body so it accumulates in your abdomin.

Recently, the ascites had become infected and Linda was hospitalized for 5 days to receive a heavy dosage of antibiotics. She is now on oral antibiotics to help prevent further infections because if there is any type of infection, they will not do a liver transplant when one becomes available. These antibiotics are not covered by insurance and one prescription alone costs $500.00 per month.

Linda is currently back on the Liver Transplant Waiting List as Number 17. As she waits, she continues to be a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and foster parent to children in the DHS system. Please show your love & support for her while we pray each day for a miracle.
