Hayley is a sweet 5 year old girl battling Neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer. This child is never without a smile or a giggle. She loves life.

Background Story
Written by Hayley's mom, Karen Kudro

Our lives changed on September 28, 2009. Before that day we were a family of four living a normal life. Hayley was enjoying school and playing with Aubrey, her little sister. I took Hayley to the doctor that morning because she was looking jaundiced. When the doctor examined her he said her liver was enlarged and wanted us to have more tests.

He sent us over to the hospital for blood work, x-rays, and an ultra-sound. By six o'clock that evening we were told that Hayley had a mass by her liver and we would need a MRI. We were told to go home that evening and they would get the test scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday. By Tuesday evening Hayley was admitted to the hospital because she kept having severe back pain.

On Wednesday afternoon we had the MRI. It showed a fairly large tumor in Hayley's abdomen. On Thursday we were told that the tumor was possibly Neuroblastoma but more testing needed to be done to confirm that. Hayley had surgery on Friday afternoon to place a central line, biopsy the tumor, and to take samples of her bone marrow. On Monday morning Hayley had another operation to place a stent from her liver down to her small intestines. The stent was placed because her liver was not functioning properly, causingthe jaundice. On Tuesday evening we were told that Hayley does have Neuroblastoma.

She will be having three scans this week to determine if the cancer has spread to other parts of her body. Once all of the scans are complete they will be able to tell us what stage the cancer is in and what risk category she is in. From there we can determine her treatment plan. Right now we need a lot of prayers. This is going to be a hard time for us all. Hayley is a very strong little girl and we are going to fight this.

Hayley is undergoing a stem cell transplant hopefully in April or May.  Prayers would be appreciated!
