UPDATE ON KIMBERLEY - July 29th, 2011

Hi everyone, Thank you so much for your continued support. I can’t say enough how grateful I am to have all of you and have all of your support --- many people I do not even know and that Kimberley doesn’t even know --- I hope your generosity comes back to you a hundred fold =)

Now for an update.

Kimberley is doing really well. They were able to leave the hospital 2 weeks ago and are staying at a hotel really near to the hospital until they can get an apartment which will be available mid August. This was huge for Kimbers as she was in the hospital for almost 7 weeks – and was not able to even leave the hospital room!

Some stats:

• Platelets gone from 116-145 – almost normal
• White Blood Cells – 2.2-6.0 – normal
• Haemoglobin – still below normal – 8.9 – should be 12 and over. Doctor says it’s the last thing to go up.

Based on her hemoglobin being low she is not having chemo for a few days – until that goes up. She is taking iron tablets and getting iron intravenously.

Kim has been getting a lot of headaches and is unsteady on her feet but the doctor says its because of the spinal tap and she has to lay down for at least 6 hours during the day for the next couple of days.

• Spinal fluid is perfectly clear and normal
• There is a fat like cholesterol in here blood that is high that is also making her feel unwell.

Once the blood tests are good, she has to do 10 sessions of 1 minute radiation – the machines are state of the art and are absolutely accurate. They are meeting with the radiologist to plug in all information into a formula to figure out what her therapy will be. She also had to make a mask for the radiation that she will put her face into so that she doesn’t move at all during the process.

Also she has to have 4 more lumbar punctures that will be put together with the radiation treatment is also chemo being put into the nervous system...:)

Tests came back and

• Philidelpia gene is negative. We believe this means that she will not have to have a bone marrow transplant but we’re not sure about that as yet – but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
• Leukemia is not genetic which means she has a much greater percentage of complete recovery =)

As of now, chemo will continue once a week for 4 months – if all goes well. And then every 21 days …

The treatment protocol is Dana Farber. http://www.dana-farber.org/

UPDATE ON KIMBERLEY - July 5th, 2011

First of all thank you all so much for your continued support. Without your help we would not have been able to do this.

Kimberley was flown to Venezuela about 3 1/2 weeks ago. When she got there, her doctors there redid all of the tests so that they could get conclusive results. Unfortunately it was confirmed that she had Type B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and had to start chemotherapy immediately. She started 3 days later and was receiving chemo everyday for 30 mins a day. During the treatment she got a fever and had to stop the chemo until the fever went away -- then they were able to start with the Chemo again. For some reason (that they are unsure of) every time they start her on the antibiotics (to fight off infection) she gets a fever. So they have taken her off all antibiotics.

Kimberley has cut off all of her hair and sent it to the Cancer society to make a wig for her. She says she also has a couple other hairstyles to try out (with laughs). All in all she says she is feeling fine and has only had a few bad days since the chemo began. Her positive attitude along with all the positive energy flowing through the universe and towards her has had an amazing impact.

She is responding so well to her treatment, that her doctor has taken her off the blood and antibiotics to see if she can produce her own white blood cells and platelets. If all goes well in the next couple days she will be able to leave the hospital on Saturday. Mom, Dad and Kimbers will stay in a sterile apartment in Caracas and Kimberley will have to see the doctor twice a week. This is all dependent on what happens over the next couple days. SO PLEASE KEEP THE POSITIVE HEALING ENERGY FLOWING & VISUALIZE HER RECOVERY -- Visualize her body making those white blood cells and platelets -- I know she can do it!

Also she will probably have to have a few radiation treatments on her brain and there is still the possibility of a bone marrow transplant. We are not sure when we will get the final word on this but we are continuing to pray that she will not have to have this as it will be a huge operation and be very painful and expensive. We are standing by to give her whatever she needs to make it through this.

Mom, Dad and Kimberley all seem to be in good spirits and doing as well as they can be in this difficult time. Please continue to spread the word about the fund raisers and donation site -- this is only the beginning of very long and very expensive journey -- one that we absolutely would not be able to fight alone.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!

If anyone has questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

With love, Nichola

My little sister, Kimberley (17) was diagnosed with acute leukemia. She needs to starts Chemo and will have to get a bone marrow transplant. She's been in the hospital since 5/31 and is continuing to get blood until she can get treatment.

There are no facilities in Trinidad (which is where she is now) for this so she will have to go to the US, Cuba or Venezuela. My parents are still trying to figure it all out but it will cost my parents over 300,000US just for the transplant --- which is 2 million TT dollars. (and there is no health insurance)

We're still investigating the best treatment options for her before we make a definitive decision but one thing we do know is that it is going to cost a lot of money and every little bit will help.

I'm making a plea to everyone to please donate anything you can to help us beat this. Together we can save this innocent little girls life.

Thank you all. Love and Blessings.
Big sister, nicks
