The family and friends of Thomas Griffin are raising money to help defray his costs in his fight against sarcoma.

Tommy was diagnosed with cancer after having surgery to remove a tumor in his lower back in May of 2008. Officially called a retro peritoneal liposarcoma. This is a very rare form of cancer, less than 1% of all cancers diagnosed in the U.S. each year. There is no known cure for it at this time and no successful methods of chemo or radiation.
Normally it returns over time to grow again in the same area and surgery is the best way to deal with it. His has returned at 18 months after surgery like clockwork.
HIs second surgery in Feb. 2010 was very extensive and involved the loss of a kidney part of his liver and reconstruction of his vena cava. He had a difficult time and spent 2 weeks on a ventilator in ICU, battling a heart attack, pneumonia and dialysis. He was released after 27 days in the hospital.
Now the cancer has returned again at 18 months and right back in the same spot, involving his backbone, liver and vena cava once again. The specialists at MD Anderson in Houston, want to do six weeks of radiation to try and control this tumor and to "sterilize " the area for the aftermath of this surgery.
Though they do have insurance, the continuing expenses for repeated trips to Texas from Florida for his checkups, the lengthy stay for the last surgery and now six weeks of radiation and 2 more trips back and forth are very draining, especially on a fixed income.
Thank you all for your donations, support and most importantly prayers. We do believe in miracles and we pray for one each day.
