Family and friends of James Bemis are uniting to raise money to help with his continued battle with cancer. Please show your support!

At the age of 13, James was diagnosed with Hodgkin disease, a type of lymphoma (Hodgkin lymphoma), a cancer that starts in cells called lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are part of the body's immune system. After an exploratory surgery and several rounds of radiation treatment, James was in remission. In 2000, a large knot in his neck and difficulty swallowing led him back to the doctor. At that time, half of his thyroid was removed to check for cancer.

In April of 2010, the remainder of his thyroid was removed and he received the diagnosis he feared, once again he was facing cancer. At that time doctors were optimistic that the surgery had taken care of the removal of all the cancerous cells.

In the summer of 2011, James once again was diagnosed with cancer. This time he had 4 skin spots removed.

The early part of 2012, James began to notice knots in his neck. Thyroid cancer had returned and had overtaken 2 lymph nodes, which doubled in size over a three week period.

From a very early age, James has been a fighter! He is forever optimistic and this time around is no different. But as you can imagine, even with medical insurance, the expense of travel to and from Wichita, KS for doctor appointments, surgeries, treatments, pet scans, etc. has taken a financial toll.

The radioactive iodine treatments have begun, the first round of which was administered on July 10 of this year. The next treatment is scheduled for January 2013. This treatment will require James to be isolated from everyone as the radioactive iodine attacks the cancer cells. He will not be able to work during this time and must be cleared by his ongologist to return to work following the treatment.

He is facing several more trips to and from Wichita for treatment and follow-up appointments. The expense is overwhelming (travel, food, lodging, not to mention medical expenses). James is married and has 4 children, three of which are living at home, as well as a granddaughter.

The support of family and friends have helped him get through the many years of diagnosis, treatments and appointments. The prayers and well wishes are so appreciated by all of his family. We are hoping, with the help of this site, to raise awareness of his years of battling cancer and the financial burden it has given him and his family. Please prayerfully consider a donation to help him offset some of the expenses that he has faced and will continue to face through this treatment phase.

Thank you so much for your continued thoughts and prayers!
