Help Lydia bring her service dog home!

My name is Lydia. I'm 23. I love my cat, Elsie Penelope. I like to be outside. I love pink, purple, hats, and shoes. I swim often, and I love anything crafty. I'm also autistic.

While I have always had sensory issues to some degree or another, the last six or eight months have brought them on to the extreme. At this point, I either highly avoid or don't go in places with fluorescent lighting, as I get sick and completely withdraw. If the lights bounce off the floors, it's even hard for me to walk. I have hyperacuisis; in other words, everyday sounds pound in my ears and hurt my head. I'm very sensitive to touch, texture, and even smell. The mall, which used to be my favorite place, has become intolerable for more than a half hour, and it ruins the rest of the day when I go.

At this point, I am reliant upon another person to keep me from falling into myself and then melting down when I am out in public. But there is hope, because, with your help, I will have a service dog. She'll provide comfortable tactile input to redirect me, help me with behaviors, and redirect me from my sensitivities. She'll take the place of a person.

Because of the developmental delay of the autism, I function much like a young teenager, day to day. At this point, I am strongly yearning for independence like any teen might. My dog will give this to me.

I am just over $500 away from my dog. So close, yet so far.

Please consider donating to my fundraiser, in any amount. I know I'm not a cute little kid, but I AM cute, and I do have a huge, bright future ahead of me!

Thanks for you time and consideration,
