Friends, please help the abandoned children by helping us to build an orphanage.

THE VISION: During our visit to the Philippines in 2006, our hearts were broken as we saw the multitudes of street children begging for food. With tears in our eyes, we shared Jesus with them and to our surprise we were able to feed 80 children rice porridge with only $10. For us it did not stop there and we soon realized the opportunity that presented itself to make a difference through extending life to these wayward children. When we came back to the U.S., we've decided to build an orphanage for the homeless children in the Philippines.

WHO: We ask you to join with us, Andrew and Jubily Kwon to make a difference in the lives of these homeless children of the Philippines. Our home is in Beaverton, Oregon where we live with our daughter Selah. We have partnered with a qualified couple in the Philippines who have experience caring for orphans and have a heart to oversee this operation.

WHAT: For us to begin, we will be traveling this month to island of Mindanao in the Philippines to buy a land for the purpose of building the orphanage. Our next step is to build a large home on the site with 6 to 7 bedrooms. After the building is complete each room can house up to 5 children and 1 house parent. The house parents will provide a quality home environment and teach basic fundamentals such as reading and writing with a Biblical foundation. There will also be a live-in cook and 1 social worker as a staff member.

WHERE: Cagayan De Oro City, Philippines (Island of Mindanao)

WHY: The island of Mindanao has 22,546 street children who are begging for scraps and eat only once a day. Most of them inhale glue to avoid hunger. They are thin, undernourished and hardly equipped to survive the hazards of everyday living and working on the streets. Some of the hazards they face include sickness, physical injuries from vehicular accidents, street fights, harassment from police, sexual exploitation by pedophiles and pimps. They are also exposed to substance abuse and sexually transmitted diseases.

How: Roy and Cristy Rodriguez, are a qualified couple who have experience ministering to street children and have adopted orphans themselves and will oversee the operation of the home. As a part of the ministry/care team, they will be in regular contact with myself and under the supervision of our board of directors.

THE NEED: Our vision is two fold. First, our immediate need is to raise $40,000 to buy the land and the building. After that we will partner with the sponsors who will help maintain the care of the children. Our goal for the orphanage is to house 20 children, 4 house parents, a cook and one licensed social worker. The total cost will be about $1,300 monthly to maintain this home and care for the children. (Each house parent will cost $100 a month, cook $70, Licensed Social worker $235)

FUTURE GOAL: Our goal is to continue to support this ministry through prayer and by contributing with others. In time we desire to move our family to oversee the work as it expands. You may rest assure that these children will learn the skills to obtain jobs, be motivated to dream big, experience love and quality care.

How can you be a part of this project?
1. Land and Building fund donations.
2. Monthly support for maintaining the orphanage.
3. Your expressed desire to become a part of our Friends of the Precious Heart Orphanage.

Every penny we receive will go directly to the Transformation House for children. We are eager to see these street children given the opportunity to become men and women whose lives have been transformed by God’s love.
